Hummingbird Room

1. A complete set of extra clothes that are labeled (underwear, socks, pants, t-shirt). Please see below about toilet training for diaper needs.
2. Clothing for outdoor play according to the season. We go out in rain or shine, snow or sleet!
3. A nutritious lunch. Please remember that the centre is a nut-free zone. We provide a morning and afternoon snack for children.
4. A cuddly or blanket for rest time, if desired.

From an early age, a child’s search for independence is fueled by the desire to make things happen and feel competent. A young child’s opinion about his/her capabilities is, to a large extent, based on his/her parent’s or teacher’s response to him/her. As an adult, our role in fostering independence is to provide love and support, encourage exploration and curiosity, teach skills, and allow children to make appropriate choices. Our enthusiasm for a child’s exploration sends a message that these activities are valued by us. When we promote independence in children, we demonstrate faith in them and send a powerful message that they are capable.

Throughout the day, we encourage independence and reliance for support from peers as well as teachers when needed. Developing independence and self-help skills are essential for developing readiness for Kindergarten and their future, as well as helping children to develop healthy self-esteem and confidence in their abilities.
